Sow Beside All Waters

Blessed are ye that sow beside all waters” - Isaiah 32.20

God has given us (born-again Christians who are part of the local New Testament Baptist church) the job of planting the word of God everywhere we go at every opportunity!  In the Bible “waters” often gives a picture of the different places, countries and nationalities.

Here are some thoughts I try to keep in mind as I go about my day interacting with people.

And Lead Us Not Into Temptation

“And lead us not into temptation,” - Matthew 6.13

Think about it!

The above phrase is what we commonly call the “Lord’s Prayer.”  It was to be an example of things we should pray about.

How true, and how needful! “…lead us not into temptation,”

Sure, we all face testing and difficulty.  And yes, the Lord does test us and try us, to see how we will react -  but we can still pray, “…lead us not into temptation,”.

And David… Behaved Himself Wisely.

“And David… behaved himself wisely:” - 1 Samuel 18:1

The way David acted in 1 Samuel 18 – following the great victory that the LORD gave him over Goliath – would affect the way he acted throughout the rest of 1 Samuel – when the victory became history and life for David went sour!

David “behaved himself wisely”.

We ought to be known for “behaving ourselves wisely.”

Whose daughter are you?

Whose daughter are you?  (Sorry fellas – but it is Mother’s Day!)

Yes, we all have an earthly mother.  We should honour her and love her in Christ, but the above verse is directing our thinking to spiritual matters when it says that you – if you are a born again Christian woman – are a daughter of... Sarah?

Open Our Eyes Lord

And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man...”

2 Kings 6.17

Do you ever try and try... and try - to help someone see something that they just can’t seem to see?

Of course we do - if we have anything to do with serving the Lord – just like the situation with Elisha here.

We must understand the part we play in the lives of people by simple PRAYER.  (Because God does hear it!)

Obedient Unto Death

“...obedient unto death...” - Philippians 2.6

Why would Jesus be, “obedient unto death”?

He was meek, and lowly, and “obedient unto death”.  Why?  I believe it was love.  He loved His Father.  He loved you.  He loved me...

“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

Who, being in the form of God,

thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

But made himself of no reputation,

and took upon him the form of a servant,

and was made in the likeness of men:

Hid

“…hid…” - Psalm 119.11

I am glad that sometimes there is just one word from the Bible that the Holy Spirit keeps in our hearts to think about.

“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that might not sin against thee.”

Turning our heart away.

“...for surely they will turn away your heart...

1 Kings 11.2

The Lord had warned the children of Israel about things that would turn their hearts away from the Lord and toward false gods...

The liberal soul shall be made fat.

“The liberal soul shall be made fat:”

Proverbs 11.25

The word “liberal” is an interesting word for us these days.  We often associate it with one of two things: the more conservative political party here in Australia – the Liberals, or someone who is a bit “too broad” in their views or thinking.

The Quiz

“whatsoever is not of faith is…”? - Roman 14.23

It’s a great time for a quiz!

Which is the correct ending to the verse?

1.       “…whatsoever is not of faith is still going to work out OK.”

2.       “…whatsoever is not of faith is scientific.”

3.       “…whatsoever is not of faith is sin.”

4.       “…whatsoever is not of faith is probably going to make more sense.”

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”  Hebrews 11:1
