Turning our heart away.

“...for surely they will turn away your heart...

1 Kings 11.2

The Lord had warned the children of Israel about things that would turn their hearts away from the Lord and toward false gods...

The verse above is speaking of King Solomon, he loved many women who were “strange”, or foreign.  Foreign from the true God in their religious beliefs.  Foreign from the Word of God their spiritual lives, and God had warned of this very thing: “...they will turn away your heart...” Amos 3:3 asks,  “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?”  No, they can’t.

Solomon may have lived long ago, but nothing has changed.  Today there are always new things, “better” things when it comes to our spiritual life!

Even “science” is now agreeing that we are spiritual beings – that people connect to their spiritual selves through music, meditation, group interaction, studies etc.  But these sorts of things offered from science, and many other “strange” places, may be “spiritual”... but the devil is “spiritual”... and these things, music, meditation, group interaction, studies etc.  - “surely they will turn away your heart after their gods”!

Too often we think the people and problems of the Bible are so far away... They are NOT!  These temptations have always existed, and the Bible has always told us of our spiritual needs!

Our greatest “spiritual” need is to come to Christ in repentance and faith.  Then our further spiritual needs can be filled by the Word of God, Prayer, the Local New Testament Church, Christ centred music... besides the latest “Christian” music is a “stranger” to the Bible.  Most “Christian” writers are “strangers” to the New Testament Church.  Most devotionals and bible studies are man focused and translation corrupt... “surely they will turn away your heart after their gods...”

Run with patience,
