Choose Now

“...they did not choose...” - Proverbs 1.27

For the longest time I did not realize exactly what this verse in Proverbs actually said.  I always thought it said, “...they would not choose...”  But it actually says, “did not”...  they already made their decision.

“...they did not choose...”

Often when we have a choice we DO NOT choose.  We think, “Well I would if I could...”  But, the fact of the matter is, often when we did, we didn’t.

I AM

I am...” - John 1.20

Those two words mean more to me everyday of my Christian life.  They are used as a name for the Almighty God.  In Exodus 3.14 before God unleashed the incredible plagues on Egypt He said to Moses, and the people of Israel, I AM THAT I AM”.  And “I AM” speaks of power and holiness, it speaks of things far beyond us!

All Scripture Is Given

“All scripture is given…” - 2 Timothy 3.15

I am so glad I didn’t evolve from some “goo” somewhere!

No plan.  No purpose.  No rhyme.  No reason.  No hope.  No future - just “hanging around” for the next million years (or so) waiting for the next… the next… something, I guess.

His Gentleness Makes Me Great

“...thy gentleness hath made me great.” - 2 Samuel 22.36

These two words that are often seen to be poles apart  - they are the words gentle and great.

Every time I read this verse I have to stop and think about the gentleness of God, and the gentleness of Christ and how I too should be gentle in sharing the gospel with the lost, in helping Christians grow in grace.  Paul said in 2 Corinthians 10:1 “Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ...”

No Evil Shall Happen

“There shall no evil happen to the just:” - Proverbs 12.21

Do you ever find times when you just need a Promise?

Times when your heart is seeking something from the Lord to help?  Sometimes it’s a decision, sometimes it’s just reassurance that the Lord is in control – that God knows what is going on?  He knows what I need, better than I know myself?

“There shall no evil happen to the just:”

Not God’s people

If my people...” - 2 Chronicles 7:14

If not God’s people, then who?

I love this verse.  The entire verse says, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

Calling God a Liar?

If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar,” - 1 John 1:10

Some people think the Bible is hard to understand...

I don’t have any trouble understanding that verse, “If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar”.

Sure I would like to think that I am a pretty good person, and if we claim to be born again Christians we certainly ought to be living right but, “If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar”.

Life’s Verse

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.” - Isaiah 26.3

This is one of those “Life’s Verses”.

This is a verse that many people hold on to when they really, really need the Lord’s help.  It is a great verse and a verse that we should all know well.  It flows.  It is true.  We can believe it.  We should hide it in our heart!

Right now this verse is making me ask myself:

Be Strong

If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee,

then how canst thou contend with horses?

Jeremiah 12.5

In the above verse Jeremiah is actually facing a very personal struggle.  He is being persecuted by the people of his own town and family.

Houses In The Rocks

...houses in the rocks;” - Proverbs 30.26

This week we look at the conies again because they are such curious little creatures with great things to teach us.

We know they are “feeble folk”, and we know they work together to make their “houses in the rocks.”

“The conies are but a feeble folk,

yet make they their houses in the rocks;”
