If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man

Proverbs 29.9

Do we ever feel like we are just not getting anywhere with someone?

Do we think, that for all we may say – there is just no response?

Have faith in God

“Have faith in God.”

Mark 11.22

In the context of this verse we see the failing of the nation of Israel, the cursed fig tree.  Then Jesus tells the disciples, “Have faith in God” to draw their attention away from the failings of man, to the everlasting, ever working, never failing will and work of the Lord.

Let us pass over unto the other side.

ship sailing into storm

Mark 4:35

We see in this passage the instructions of the Lord Jesus Christ to His disciples.  Little did they know what lay before them.  They were simply doing as they were told, getting into the ship, setting sail, resting and preparing for whatever was next.

“And there arose a great storm of wind,

and the waves beat into the ship, so that is was now full...”

. . . of the LORD's mercies . . .

“. . .of the LORD’s mercies . . .”

Lamentations 3:22-23

“It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed,

because his compassions fail not.

They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”

I thank the Lord that He brings this verse to my mind dozens of times throughout a year.

Where would any of us be without the mercy and compassion of God?

God is not ashamed to be called their God

 Sunset over the ocean

"God is not ashamed to be called their God . . ."

Hebrews 11:16

Why?  Why isn’t God ashamed?

Why isn’t God ashamed to be called their God?

Because they not only chose Him to be their God - their only God, but they also chose to live their lives as though HE was EVERTHING… EVERY THING to them! They had the determination to really walk the walk.

Let all things be done decently and in order

Books in order

“Let all things be done decently and in order.”

(1 Corinthians 14:40)

That always takes planning, prayer and preparation!  “Let all things be done decently and in order.”

Sometimes it just takes “getting on with it!”  Like, the opposite of procrastination… “Never put off tilltomorrow, what you can do today.”  “You may delay, but time will not.”  So – DO NOT PUT THINGS OFF!

However - “Let all things be done decently and in order.”

And the Spirit bade me go

Boy walking on path

“And the Spirit bade me go…

nothing doubting.”

(Acts 11:12)

We can have confidence that God helps us every day.

How?

Because we have His Word!  In the above verse Peter is telling how he was struggled with a decision.  He knew what he had been taught, he knew what the Word of God said, but God was teaching Him more now and he needed to see it for himself, “the Spirit bade me go…” and he needed to trust the Lord,“nothing doubting.”

...who then can make trouble?

meadow with flowers and fallen tree

“When he giveth quietness,

who then can make trouble?”

(Job 34:29)

That is a great question!  When God gives quietness, who in the world could possibly make trouble?

NO… body!

We do know that life often has its difficulties and troubles, but the truth is that God has given us quietness and He offers peace in the middle of our storms.

Be careful for nothing

Bible next to straw and white cloth.

“Be careful for nothing…”

(Philippians 4:6)

“Be careful for nothing…”  What does that mean?  Does it mean we can… play in the busy road?  Does it mean we can… jump into that risky investment?

No.

By faith Abraham…

Silhouette photography of person standing on green grass in front of mountains during golden hour

“By faith Abraham…”

(Hebrews 11:8)

That sounds noble, but we need to understand that what Abraham did, “by faith”, was considered a bit ridiculous, by most people around him at the time.  His nephew didn’t stick to the plan…  His wife changed the plan…  His oldest son wanted nothing to do with the plan… even he doubted the plan himself a time or two…

Begs the question – WHAT EXACTLY was “THE PLAN”?
