Emmanuel... God with us

Emmanuel... God with us.”

Matthew 1.23

This verse amazes me because Jesus was... God... with us.

It amazes me that God the Father sent Jesus, and that Jesus willing obeyed. (Philippians 2.5-8)

It amazes me because I will spend my life thinking about this verse, believing it and accepting it with all my heart, but it is so far beyond my mind that I could never completely understand it.

What can I do for the Lord?

“What shall I render unto the LORD for all his benefits toward me?” - (Psalm 116.12-13)

What can I do for the LORD because He has been so good to me?!

This is the question asked by the Psalmist.

When we see all that God has done for us, when we focus on Him and His work in our lives and count our many blessings – we may also find ourselves asking, “What shall I render unto the LORD for all his benefits toward me?”

O satisfy us early...

O satisfy us early with thy mercy,
that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

Psalm 90.14

Over the next few weeks so many people will be looking for some sort of satisfaction.

That is not a bad thing – the verse above speaks of being satisfied.  The tricky thing is how people will go looking for satisfaction.

Zion... the foxes walk upon it.

This can’t be good...  Zion is where the Temple is... where the Temple was... this can’t be good!

We only have to see which book of the Bible this verse comes from to know something is wrong.

The Book of Lamentations.  The book of crying.  The Book of the Bible that speaks of the weeping of the prophet Jeremiah, the weeping of the people of Israel... the weeping of the heart of Almighty God Who is all loving and all merciful!

If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death

“If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.”
John 8.51

Baptist people know the Bible, they believe the Bible and the Bible guides us in every part of our life.  Love your Bible.  Know your Bible!  The article below is very good!

Our European Baptist brethren in the early 16th century suffered terribly cruel persecution.
George Wagner of Emmerich, Germany was tossed into the flames in February 1527 because he didn’t believe that baptism possessed any saving power.

...lead me to the rock that is higher than I

In the Christian life it is good to know we have a God Who is greater than anything we can imagine!  Even us...

So often we look down...  We look around...  We wonder how things could be better… We ask, “What are the ‘options’”.

Related imageSo often we try to plan, anticipate, prepare for “something” to happen...?  Then it does and - “LOOK OUT!!!”  Maybe it wasn’t what we wanted!

But for all that God has for us, in this life, for all of life’s “excitement”, it is always good to know it is all about Him and for Him.

They did nothing.

“…they have done nothing…”

Jeremiah 32:23

That sounds bad and, it is bad.

This passage from the Book of Jeremiah speaks of people who claimed to know the Lord.  It speaks not only their actions, but also theirattitude, and that was after God gave them everything!

Unto you that hear...

“…unto you that hear shall more be given.”

Mark 4.24

“…unto you that hear…”

This is a very interesting statement.  For those of us who are listening…

Listening to what?

Unicorns?

And the unicorns shall come down with them...”

Isaiah 34.7

What exactly is a unicorn?

Have you ever wondered?

A unicorn is a mythical creature.  Or so, most of the dictionaries etc. will say today.

But in the above verse, in the context of the Lord’s return to earth to rule and reign with His saints, we are told, And the unicorns shall come down with them...”

They are wise to do...

"they are wise to do...”?

Jeremiah 4.22

We read this verse in Jeremiah and it sounds like a very good verse of scripture doesn’t it, they are wise to do...”?
