Zion ... the Foxes Walk Upon It

“Zion... the foxes walk upon it.” - Lamentations 5.18

This can’t be good...  Zion is where the Temple is... was... this can’t be good.

We only have to see which book of the Bible this verse comes from to know something is wrong.

He That Believeth on Him Shall Not Be Confounded

“...he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.” - 1 Peter 2.6

That Obey Not the Gospel?

“…what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?” - 1 Peter 4:17

Often the Bible says things in a way that we have not thought of before. The above verse says something that I find very interesting: A person’s eternity depends on simple obedience. Obedience of... the gospel.

“...the gospel…”

The Gospel is that Jesus died, was buried and rose again the third day, according to the scriptures (1 Corinthians 15.1-4). He died, shedding His blood, because we are sinners – only He can save us.

Yet...

“Yet...” - Psalm 2.6

The second Psalm puts it all so well...

“Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?”

“The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.”

Grace Did Much More Abound

“…grace did much more abound:” - Romans 5:20

How it is that “skating on thin ice” can get us into “hot water”?

We do have some funny sayings don’t we?

Fact is, we are all skating on thin ice.  Or at least some of us were.

Before a person receives the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour, they are “skating on thin ice”.  Every day is a day closer to “cracking”, a day closer to eternity, a day closer to the final judgment…

Ye Shall Blow an Alarm

“...ye shall blow an alarm...” - Numbers 10:9

Do you have an alarm on your house?

We don’t.  Mainly because we live in a very quiet neighbourhood and a fairly peaceful country.  If things changed we would get an alarm... on our physical house.  But what about our spiritual houses?

David ... Behaved Himself Wisely:

“And David went out withersoever Saul sent him and behaved himself wisely:” - 1 Samuel 18:1

I think the way David acted in 1 Samuel 18 - when everything was going well – would affect the way he acted throughout the rest of 1 Samuel – when things went sour!

David behaved wisely.

We ought to be known for “behaving ourselves wisely.”

Whether people agree with us, or not, whether they want to have anything to do with us, or not, we should simply - “behave ourselves wisely.”

Provoke Unto Love...

“And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: ”Hebrews 10:24

We usually think of the word “provoke” in the negative sense of “to make angry”, but it has a positive sense, “to move, or to stir up” in a good way! I think the following story gives a great illustration of Mums – who are faithfully encouraging, stirring up their children in good ways... even if it’s a bit too “stirring” at times!

Strength & Courage

“Only be thou strong and very courageous” - 2 Chronicles 32.7

Strength & Courage

It takes strength to be firm.
It takes courage to be gentle.

It takes strength to stand guard.
It takes courage to let down your guard.

It takes strength to conquer.
It takes courage to be meek.

It takes strength to be certain.
It takes courage to face doubt.

It takes strength to fit in.
It takes courage to stand out.

Full of Deadly Poison

“...full of deadly poison.” - James 3:8

The Bible says that something is...“full of deadly poison”! What? What would the Bible say is “full of deadly poison”?

The way the Bible says it is pretty descriptive: “full of deadly...poooiiissssssoonnn.”

It almost sounds like it could be a snake! But it's not. Snakes can certainly be poisonous, and we would take care if we had much to do with them, but what does the Bible say is “full of deadly poison”?
