“Casting all...”

“Casting all...” - 1 Peter 8.7

How often we need to be reminded of this great verse in the Bible, basically, “Don’t hang on to our problems, struggles or difficulties!”

Casting all your care upon him;”

That goes against our nature!

Surely if we “hang on”... “hang in there”... “be tough”...  “don’t give up”...  Surely that is what will see us through?!

The LORD’s Mercies

“...of the LORD’s mercies...” - Lamentations 3.22-23

“It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed,

because his compassions fail not.

They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”

I thank the Lord that He brings this verse to my mind dozens of times throughout a year.

Where would any of us be without the mercy and compassion of God?

In the way

“...in the way...”

Genesis 24.27

This is a verse we revisit from time to time because of the way it gives us perspective.

Have you ever felt like you were just - “in the way”?

Life bustles this way and life bustles that way and you’re neither here nor there, you’re just “in the way”!

Sometimes that is exactly where we need to be - as born again Christians - “in the way”!

We have this Treasure

we have this treasure”

2 Corinthians 4.7

The above quote comes from the Apostle Paul, “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.”  (2 Corinthians 4:7-10)

King James Bible 1611

Some people think our King James Bible is hard to understand...

I don’t have any trouble understanding that verse, “If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar”.

Sure I would like to think that I am a pretty good person, and if we claim to be born again Christians we certainly ought to be living right but “If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar”.

Depart not from Me.

But Jesus said unto them,

They need not depart; give ye them to eat.

Matthew 14.16

There will be times as Bible believing Christians when we feel as though we have given and given and we don’t have much more to give.

“Knock knock.” “Who’s there?” “Fear!”

“...shall be quiet from fear...” - Proverbs 1.33

“Knock knock.”  “Who’s there?”  “Fear!”  When was the last time “Fear” knocked on our door?  Who did we send to answer?  Was it Fear’s best mate, Worry?  Or Fear’s mother, Self-centred?  The next time Fear knocks on our door let’s send this “quiet” little verse to answer!

“But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely,

and shall be quiet from fear of evil.”

Do We Trouble the Lord?

“…why troublest thou the Master any further?

Mark 5.35

A man was trying to get help for his daughter.  She was dying.  Actually, the truth was that she had already died.  “While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?” (Mark 5:35)

In their grief they said, “Why?”  “Why bother?”

Why trouble the Lord about this?  It’s too late… she’s gone.  She is dead!

What Is Man?

“What is man…?” - Job 7.17

What sort of question is this?  “What is man…?”

Man is… well, man is…

Man is probably the most vulnerable of all of God’s creation, “vulnerable” meaning WEAK!

Can man - run like a cheetah?  Swim like a fish?  Fly like an eagle?  Or even a pigeon?  Climb like cat?  Drink like a camel?  Eat like a grizzly – then sleep like one?  If only!

His Mercy Endureth Forever.

“O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good:

for his mercy endureth for…” - Psalm136.1

O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy…

Time for a quiz – multiple choice!

A.      O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for awhile, for people who are really good?

B.      O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for a lifetime!  After that… well who knows?
