If Christ be in you...

“…if Christ be in you…”

Romans 8.10

Sadly some people just do not know!

Yet, it is very simple: Either Christ is in us, or Christ is not in us.

We will know for sure because He will tell us!  (“The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:” verse 16)

But now to this thought:  “And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.”

The shield of faith

“Above all, taking the shield of faith...”

Ephesians 6.16

Endure Hardness

Thou therefore endure hardness,

as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.”

2 Timothy 2.3

The following is adapted from “A Soft and Effeminate Christianity” by Horatius Bonar, Scottish pastor, poet and songwriter, 1808-1889.

I Have Sinned Greatly.

“David said unto God, I have sinned greatly... I have done very foolishly.” - 1 Chronicles 21.8

In the above passage we find King David needing to take full responsibility for God’s judgment which was falling on his kingdom, the nation of Israel.

He was the king, the leader, and he confessed, “I have done very foolishly” by numbering the people when God had told him not to.

Thank the Lord for the Bible!

Lead Us Not Into Temptation.

“And lead us not into temptation,”

Matthew 6.13

Think about it!

The above phrase is what we commonly call the “Lord’s Prayer.”  It was to be an example of things we should pray about.

How true, and how needful! “…lead us not into temptation,”

Sure, we all face testing and difficulty.  And yes, the Lord does test us and try us, to see how we will react -  but we can still pray, “…lead us not into temptation,”.

Neither Pray Alone.

“Neither pray I for these alone...” - John 17.20

In John chapter 17 we see the Prayer of our Lord Jesus Christ which He prayed just moments before He was betrayed and taken to be crucified.

He was specifically praying for His disciples, that first church, but in the prayer, we see our Lord often praying for us when He said such things as, “Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;”.

Jesus was praying for me?

Atonement

“atonement” - Romans 5:11

“At one”

An easy way to remember what this word means to us in a practical sense is the think “at one”… “at-one-ment”.  “And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.” (Romans 5:11)

To Save Sinners

“...Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners...” - 1 Timothy 1.15

If people had to choose to follow me, Pastor Frank Tottingham, or Jesus, who would people choose?

Stupid question isn’t it?

If people had to choose to follow Gandhi or Jesus, who would they choose?

If people had to choose to follow Mother Teresa or Jesus, who would they choose?

If people had to choose to follow Buddha or Jesus, who would they choose?

In the Spirit

“I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day…” - Revelation 1.10

The above verse is from “The Book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ”, and though the Apostle John was exiled on an isolated island, he could still say, “I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last”.

Open thou mine eyes

“Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.” - Psalm 119.18

What a great prayer!  David gives us some very good words here when it comes to the Bible, or “thy law” as he calls it here.  “Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.”
