THE GOD

“…the God…

2 Chronicles 32.19

“And they spake against the God of Jerusalem, as against the gods of the people of the earth, which were the work of the hands of man.”  2 Chronicles 32:19

Honestly… what can anyone say about that verse other than that they really should NOT have done that!  They should NOT have spoken against the God of Jerusalem… He is NOT like other gods!

They DID NOT know who they were dealing with!

Let Him Go

Who is there among you of all his people?

The LORD his God be with him, and let him go up.” - 2 Chronicles 36.23

The above verse comes at an amazing time in history.  First of all, God uses a non-Jewish ruler, Cyrus – who was the ruler of the then known world, to encourage the work of the Lord.

Sinneth Not

(for there is no man which sinneth not,)” - 2 Chronicles 6.36

This little parenthesis strikes me every time I read it!

The truth of it strikes me, and it strikes me more so because of where we actually find it in the Bible.  It is right in the middle of King Solomon’s powerful prayer of dedication for the amazing temple in Jerusalem!

It would seem that in a prayer of dedication for such a beautiful new temple these words are so “out of place”!

Thou Canst Not Follow Me

“Jesus answered him,

Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now” - John 13:36

Think about that very carefully.  What is Jesus saying? “Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now;”

He is speaking to the disciples, specifically to Peter (indirectly to every born again believer) and He says, “Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now”

Look Right On

“Let thine eyes look right on,

and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.” - (Proverbs 4:25)

Don’t get distracted!  Don’t get side-tracked!  Keep looking straight ahead!  “Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.”

Whatever it is that God has given you to do – keep doing it!  That is living by faith.  That is being faithful.  And that has all of God’s blessings and takes advantage of His promises!  (Think Hebrews 11 – “The Hall of Faith” chapter in the Bible!)

Give Ourselves Continually

But we will give ourselves continually to prayer,

and to the ministry of the word.” - Acts 6.4

These are the words of the twelve apostles during the time they needed to be focused and organized as ministers, preachers and pastors!

I claimed this verse sometime in 2006 for myself in my work as a pastor.

But we will give ourselves continually to prayer,

and to the ministry of the word.

He Preserveth Saints

“He… preserveth the way of his saints.”

Proverbs 2:8

We have no idea what we will face this year but the Lord “preserveth the way of his saints.”

Many people try and make New Years’ resolutions but the Lord “preserveth the way of his saints.”

Some people have many fears about what this year holds for them but the Lord “preserveth the way of his saints.”

The Shield of Faith

“...the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able

to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.”

Ephesians 6:13-18

Thank the Lord we go into this New Year with the armour of God!

But This Man

“But this man,

after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever,

sat down on the right hand of God;”

Hebrews 10.12

How incredible are these words?  “this man… offered one sacrifice for sins for ever”!

It should be no surprise who “this Man” is –

“For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men,

the man Christ Jesus;” 1 Timothy 2.5

Might Have Hope

...that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures

might have hope.” - Romans 15.4

The whole verse is this: “For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.”
