“...ye shall blow an alarm...”

Numbers 10.9

Do you have an alarm on your house?

We don’t.  We do have a couple of fire alarms, but not an alarm like the above verse is talking about.  Mainly because we live in a very quiet neighbourhood and a fairly peaceful country.  If things changed we could get an alarm... on our physical house.  But what about our spiritual houses?

Do we have an alarm on our heart?  Our family?  Our church?  Yes, we do thank God for the peace we enjoy, but as much as we are at peace, the Bible tells us we are also in a spiritual battle.  Like these people in the book of Numbers were told, “And if ye go to war in your land against the enemy that oppresseth you, then ye shall blow an alarm with the trumpets; and ye shall be remembered before the LORD your God, and ye shall be saved from your enemies.”

We certainly face “oppression” from the “ruler of this world”, the “prince of the power of the air”, “the accuser of the brethren” and we need alarms!  Alarms warn of where the danger is coming from.  Alarms bring the reinforcements.  Alarms let the enemy know - that we know... where they are trying to get in!

Is our alarm working?  When was the last time we were aware of a danger?  When was the last time the enemy knew - that we knew... where they were trying to get in!?  Look there!  Trying to get in the Bible!  The music!  The baptistery!  The home!  The prayer!  The preaching!  When was the last time we realized help was available and coming to us?

Like the song says,

“Sound the battle cry.  See – the foe is nigh!”

“...ye shall blow an alarm…”
