“When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart.”

Proverbs 26:25-28

Speaking of a talebearer, which is someone who is a “slanderer”, or a “whisperer”, we are told that when he, or she, is talking nice – don’t believe them - because there are seven abominations in his heart!

In the Bible the word “seven” has to do with something complete, so it can mean that it is a complete plan, a perfect trap, something that has been completely thought out – to cause us trouble!

The word “seven” here also made me look for seven actual things… “Whose hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be shewed before the whole congregation. Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him. A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.”

I believe both are at least applicable –

  1. When a talebearer (a slanderer, a whisperer) is really saying some amazing things, BE CAREFUL… he has a completely well thought out plan to get you!

        And also,

       2. When a talebearer is waxing eloquent, BE CAREFUL… he hates you, but will be deceitful in hiding it.  He is wicked and it will come out, but we don’t know when.  He will be digging a pit, and probably digging for information and keeping a file, as well as looking to knock you over with something – like being so above you and in a position to roll a stone down on you.  He, or she, is lying.  It sounds really nice, but it is flattery!

So, be careful of people who have little stories they try to whisper to you… sooner or later, YOU will be their target!
