“Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God”

Hebrews 11:3

The following was written by a man who loved, and defended, our King James Bible.  I had adapted it for emphasis.  It is worth reading through, a couple of times!

Hebrews 11 is well-known as “Faith’s Hall of Fame.”  It is a chapter filled with great examples of faith, primarily from the great book of faith – Genesis.

Now, from memory, who are the first people praised for their faith in Hebrews?

Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Sarah..?  No actually.  It’s NOT them…

It could be and should be YOU.  You see, with them i.e., Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph the Holy Ghost proposes to associate US.

“Through faith we…”

Moreover, He gives us the place of honour.  Because, before mentioning one of their acts of faith, He mentions one of ours.

Is that true?  God mentions us first in this great chapter of faith?  Absolutely!  We come first, then they.  And the particular field in which we shine out so conspicuously, the special province which is assigned to us, that portion of the inspired Narrative where you and I are supposed to show a degree of undoubting faith which entitles us to rank with those ‘Great men and women of old’ – is found to be in the first chapter of the Book of Genesis…. ‘Through faith WE understand that the worlds were framed by the Word of God.’”  (adapted Dean Burgon)

The Bible, this Bible the King James Bible, is our Bible, my Bible!  And God tells us, He tells each of us personally, so many times how much He loves us and how much we can be a part of His plan – if we choose to live by faith!

May we continue to believe in simply reading the Bible and letting the power of the Word of God change our lives!
