“Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”

James 4.7b

The Bible tells us a few things about the devil, and one of them is that he is a counterfeit, and the master of disguise.

“And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.” 2 Corinthians 11:14

The devil is the master of half-truths and deception.  At the very beginning he questioned the Word of God, deceiving Eve.  Then he tempted our Lord Jesus by trying to throw doubt on Who He was as well as throwing doubt on the Word of God itself.

The devil has an arsenal of weapons which he uses against the born again believer.  And be warned: it is the born again believer that he is after!

He does not seem to concern himself with non-Christians too much, they belong to him.  Even the lukewarm, backslidden Christian does not seem to attract his attention much.  It is the born again Bible believing, Bible reading Christian, who loves the Word of God and is in church trying their best to live for God – this is who the devil is after!

The devil loves deceit, doubt and discouragement!  So we are told, “Resist the Devil, and he will flee”.   Paul also tells us, “God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” (1Timothy 1:7)

The Word of God overcomes deceit – read your Bible!

The love of God will settle our doubts – trust God!

And a sound mind will see us through times of discouragement – run with patience and look to Jesus!

In so doing, we will resist the devil, and he will flee from us!
