“Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:”

Genesis 12.1

It is very interesting to see several of the verses from this chapter in Genesis come together…

“Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country… unto a land that I will shew thee… (then verse 5) and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came. (and verse 10) And there was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt…”

The Lord told Abram/Abraham what to do.  He did it.  But then, when life got difficult -  Abraham changed the plan… and trouble began! (Read on in chapter 12 regarding the trouble that came in Egypt, and 16 regarding Hagar, the Egyptian handmaid!)

What is the Lord telling us regarding this New Year?  Have we asked Him?  Has He spoken to our hearts about some things?

What have we learned, and how have we grown from the lessons of this past year?  Have we looked back with gratitude?  Has the Lord given us some direction for the New Year?

It is a good time to reflect – in prayer, then plan and prepare – and then, stick to it!

Don’t be like Abraham here – getting where God has led us – and where God has blessed us -  then when things get difficult go…“down…” –  “down into Egypt…” and remember, in the Bible Egypt was often the place of trouble… and it ended up being trouble for Abraham!
