“If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar,”

1 John 1.10

Some people think the Bible is hard to understand...

I don’t have any trouble understanding that verse, “If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar”.

Sure, I would like to think that I am a pretty good person, and if we claim to be born again Christians we certainly ought to be living right but,

“If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar”.

The bottom line is that I am a sinner.  It is in my nature to sin.  I may say I didn’t tell a lie, I was only “stretching the truth”.   Sometimes I may feel like I wasn’t being lazy or slothful, I was only “procrastinating a bit”.  Certainly I am not a covetous person, I am only just “wishing for something better”.

What we need, is to understand what sin is and admit that we need God’s help, because “If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar”.

When was the last time we called God a liar?

Maybe we would say we have NEVER called God a liar!  But, “If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar” – is there any difference?  “Make him a liar, call Him a liar.

When was the last time we “owned” our sin - our sinful nature - and then found how amazing grace really is?
