“...he that winneth souls...”

Proverbs 11.30

Having a heart for others, especially those without Christ, is not always something that just comes “naturally”.  It is not easy!

Certainly there are times we are burdened for particular people.  There are times when our hearts go out to them, or we feel the frustration of people wandering aimlessly into Eternity without Christ.  But often we are busy or distracted toward the need of the lost - their need to be “saved” (Acts 16.30), to be “born again” (John 3.7), to “pass from death unto life” (John 5.24).

For us to care about leading others to the Lord is actually hard work.  Like being in a competition and trying to “win”. (1 Corinthians 9.24, Hebrews 12.1) But it is also trying to “win them over” to see their own need for the Lord.

“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life;

and he that winneth souls is wise.”

Is being a winner of souls something we can do in our own strength?

No, not at all.  The Lord will help us.  We just need to be caring, kind and compassionate.  We need to have the boldness to speak the truth in love. (Ephesians 4.15)  We need to look for, and take, whatever opportunities we have to “win” a soul to Christ, and for Christ.  Even the Apostle Paul prayed for boldness and we must follow his example in seeking God’s help. (Ephesians 6.19)

“Lord lay some soul upon my heart...”
