“God hath seen mine affliction and the labour of my hands, and rebuked thee…”

Genesis 31.42b

It is important to know where we stand with the Lord.

It is important because, there are often times in our spiritual life when people give us a hard time.  But we should KNOW where we stand, and we KNOW the Lord sees our heart, our attitude and our actions, and He defends us.  “God hath seen… and rebuked thee…”

That is the point of having a Daily Walk with the Lord.  (A time of prayer, Bible reading and meditation/thinking over what we have read.)  And that’s the point of having Humility.

When we spend time with the Lord on a regular basis - seeking for His critique, asking Him to search our hearts, accepting His correction – we can live our Christian lives in confidence!

In the above verse Jacob could speak with such confidence because he knew where he stood with the Lord.  He knew that in spite of his problems the Lord saw how he suffered and how he worked to do the right thing.  Then Jacob could know it was the Lord who kept a lot of trouble away from him.  Sure, he had to deal with the consequences of his bad choices, but Jacob still knew that God was helping him do better and protecting him!

When was the last time we were able to clearly say, “It is the Lord who sees all I do, and it is the Lord who rebukes trouble and troublesome people for me!”?
