“Behold, the noise of the bruit is come”

Jeremiah 10.22

I love this word!  We find it only two times in our King James Bible, and I love it!

The word… “bruit”!

Don’t you just love it too?  …actually, …what does it even mean?  “bruit”?

It means “news”, “rumour”.  It means, something heard, an announcement: news, report, rumour, tidings.  Now pay attention to where we find this word in the Bible:

“Behold, the noise of the bruit is come, and a great commotion out of the north country, to make the cities of Judah desolate, and a den of dragons.” Jeremiah 10:22

“There is no healing of thy bruise; thy wound is grievous: all that hear the bruit of thee shall clap the hands over thee: for upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually?” Nahum 3:19

Sounds like bad news for someone, mostly.  It sounds like the “bruit” we’ve been hearing for months!  But I still love the word.  It’s a word that is a bit odd, and different, but it can be a reminder to us that even if most of the “bruit” is bad and confusing, we have the “good news”, the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

So, remember that; and then listen to the news God gives us, “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.” Psalms 46:10-11
