“...the way of the righteous is made plain.”

Proverbs 15.19

“...made plain”.  What do we think of when we read this word, “plain”?

I think of something simple and straightforward.  A clear way ahead.  A way without a lot of obstacles.  In this verse the word ‘plain’ means ‘to mound up’, like a built up road or highway.  This verse starts out by saying, “The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous is made plain.”  There are two ways: the lazy way or the way that takes some effort to build up; the hedge of thorns or, the plain way.

God wants our lives to be simple and straightforward.  His choice for us to avoid any sin that will entangle us and bog us down.  “The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous is made plain.”  Paul tells us in Romans 16.19, “I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil.”  Beware of evil!  Stay away from sin!  Remember:

Sin will always take us further than we want to go,

keep us longer than we want to stay,

and cost us more than we can pay!

The Bible helps us find the plain way: “The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way do I hate.” (Proverbs 8.13)  We must get to the point where we hate sin.  We hate the lies it tries to tell.  We hate the hurt it always brings.  We must get to the point where we fear the Lord, we love the Lord, and we want what is right.  To live right.  To do right.  To go the right way because... “the way of the righteous is made plain.”
