“The LORD hath mingled a perverse spirit in the midst thereof:”

Isaiah 19.14

That is about the last thing anyone would want.  Wouldn’t you say?  When it comes to all that the Lord does, He does so much to bless us.  God wants to bless us!  But I wouldn’t want Him to do that.

Do what?  “The LORD hath mingled a perverse spirit in the midst...”

This is speaking about the Egyptian people.  They were people who had seen “The LORD” do some amazing things: The Egyptians saw the judgment of the Lord upon them when He sent the plagues.  They saw “The LORD” lead the Children of Israel out of Egypt, through the Red Sea, through the Wilderness for forty years and finally, “The LORD” took His people into the Promised Land... and what did the Egyptians learn from all of this?

Not much!

Not much, because now – The LORD hath mingled a perverse spirit in the midst thereof: and they have caused Egypt to err in every work thereof, as a drunken man staggereth in his vomit.” Isaiah 19:14

It reminds me of King Saul.  The first King of Israel.  He got so bitter about the way the Lord was not doing what He wanted Him to do, He got frustrated at how things were not going according to his plans to the point that when the Lord allowed an evil spirit to oppress his life… “the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.” 1 Samuel 16:14 “The LORD hath mingled a perverse spirit in the midst thereof:”

May we learn from all these examples to stay right with the Lord, and to stay in His will, and to be careful who we are around and spend our time with!
