“to know”

Proverbs 1.2

When I read this the other morning those two words hit me like never before!

“to know”

Years ago, I memorized these verses, and other parts of this chapter have been a blessing, but these two words… they have proven true, and powerful even though they were just “hidden” there in my heart for… how many years?  … about 36 years I think… yes, for about 36 years those two words were just sitting, hidden in my heart.

This is what happened:  Some people had tried to cause trouble in our church.  As the pastor I needed wisdom, instruction from the Lord, words of understanding (from God to me, then from me to the troublemakers, then between all of us - as a church); we needed justice, judgment (decisions to be made), and equity (evenness, a straight-forward resolve); we needed knowledge and discretion (a good, Godly plan), things mentioned right here in Proverbs 1.

God gave all of that… and more, and within days the problem was resolved, the wolves were gone, and we as a church, we had been in a battle that was the Lord’s, where we could watch and learn how the Lord looks after His church!

What a great reminder to just keep reading the Bible and find that it does get “hidden” in our hearts - for times when we really need “to know”!

Thy word have I hid in mine heart...” (Psalms 119:11)
