“For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.”

Luke 18:25

How can a camel go through the “eye of a needle”?  Because Jesus said that it was easier for a camel to go through a needle’s eye than for a rich man to get saved!

The people who heard Jesus were confused… ”And they that heard it said, Who then can be saved?”  But then Jesus said… “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.” Luke 18:26-27

So, it’s like this picture… right?  Or is it?

Well, we actually believe Jesus was referring to the very small doorway, often hidden in the city wall somewhere, or a small door within a city gate.  These were for security and a lot of cities during that time had them.  At night, or during times of danger the bigger gates were closed and locked and the only way in was through the small, more secure, and easier to defend door, often called the “eye of the needle”.

Jesus was saying that the only way a rich man could get into heaven was by leaving of all the riches behind!  And even then, the camel often had to crawl through on his knees…

“For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.”

So, this parable teaches the spiritual truth that covetousness (wanting more and more) can keep us from heaven, and we must come humbly, bowing before God.  The choice is ours, and God will help…… “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.”
