“But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you”

Hebrews 6.9

In the above verse the Lord is speaking to people who claimed to be born again Christians.  These people were also Jewish/Hebrews, hence the name of the book.  They were sometimes confused because they felt they were getting to heaven because they were “good Jews”.

But... NOBODY is going to heaven because they are a “good” anything!

It just doesn’t matter, “good” Jew, “good” Baptist, “good” Muslim, “good” Hindu... because, in the Bible Jesus says, there is none good but one, that is, God”, and God tells us in the Book of Romans, “They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.”  (Matthew 19.17, Romans 3:12)

These professing Christians needed to be clear on this issue!

They needed to understand that “professing” was one thing, but “possessing” was another!

They are being told in a loving way, “If you are saved then know it... and act like it!”  “But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation,”

Today there are many people thinking they will go to the “good hereafter” – based on whatever their “Faith” teaches – because they are a “good” something...

But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.”  I am so glad “that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”!  (Isaiah 64.6, 1 Timothy 1.15)
