“…yet I will look again…” ?

Who… is saying… what?  In the above verse, who is saying this???

I was fascinated when I read this recently… because I’ve read this many times before.  This is one of the most familiar stories in the Bible, and it’s easy to think…

“we already know what this is about…”

And then miss what God may be saying to us right here, right now!

We may miss an incredible IMPACT!

We may miss a very personal message from a living God, and a loving God to us!

We must keep in mind that, even if we’ve heard the stories before, or read this before, we are at a different place of our lives now… pay attention to get what we need right now!

To me, the word “yet”, in this verse, reminds me that some bad things had happened to this person because… well because this person did something very wrong… and they were now facing the consequences… but they are still able to say “yet I will…”  “yet I will look again…”

  1. God never leaves us!
  2. God gives us a second chance!
  3. God gives us the ability to see… to “look”!  Yes, acknowledge what we’ve done and choose repentance, and then “look” again in the right direction…

This person says, “yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.”  Key word there for me is “toward”.  To me that means that instead of trying to run away from God again, they had changed their mind and would look “toward” God.

The POINT is this.  Enjoy your Bible reading.  Always remember that we serve a living Saviour, Who is the Living Word of God.  Ask for more from God’s Word, from your personal Bible reading.  Ask for more of God!  And we start by remembering that regardless of our past, we can say “yet I will look again toward” the Lord!

So… who was praying this prayer?  Hint – he was in a whales’ belly.  Jonah 2.4
