Restore My Joy

“Restore unto me the joy…” - Psalm 51.12

Have you ever felt “FLAT”?  Have you felt spiritually “FLAT” and muddled?  There are times we need to be reminded that the Christian life is a life of JOY!

In this passage we see that David has just been through a real struggle.  A time of sadness and loss, a time of confession and repentance - because his troubles had been self-inflicted.  In all of this he says, “Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.”  This verse helps us all, regardless of our situation, because sometimes we simply forget about - joy...”.

We are working, struggling, making our way through life and we just forget, the “gladness”, the “exultation”, the “rejoicing” that are all a part of the “the joy of thy (God’s) salvation”.

Thank the Lord for these reminders!  A smile on our face starts us off right…“gladness”.  Then looking up and not around, “exultation”; this gets us in a good frame of mind.  Then “speaking to ourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs…”“rejoicing”.  You know, before we know it, it has happened!  Our joy is restored, and we can see we are upheld by the free spirit of our kind and blessed and wonderful God!  “Restore unto me the joy…”
