A nail in his holy place

“…a nail in his holy place…”

Ezra 9:8

A nail is of no use unless it is used in the right place!  The above is another beautiful picture of the Lord Jesus Christ!

Read the whole verse – “And now for a little space grace hath been shewed from the LORD our God, to leave us a remnant to escape, and to give us a nail in his holy place, that our God may lighten our eyes, and give us a little reviving in our bondage.” Ezra 9:8

Powerful words!  The complete gift of Salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord!

There is more – “And I will fasten him as a nail in a sure place; and he shall be for a glorious throne to his father's house. And they shall hang upon him all the glory of his father's house, the offspring and the issue, all vessels of small quantity, from the vessels of cups, even to all the vessels of flagons. In that day, saith the LORD of hosts, shall the nail that is fastened in the sure place be removed, and be cut down, and fall; and the burden that was upon it shall be cut off: for the LORD hath spoken it.”  Isaiah 22:23-25

The sacrifice for our sins was made on the Cross, and the blood of the sinless Lamb of God was applied to the Mercy Seat in Heaven! He was hung on the cross and He bore all of our sins in His own body.  His blood was shed.  He paid the price of our sins once – for all.  It is done.  It is finished.  Salvation is complete!

A nail is of no use unless it is used in the right place!

Here’s a final thought.  As a nail is beaten into place, so Jesus was wounded for our transgressions – but do we sometimes resist the pressure we feel, as God puts us in the place where we can best serve His purpose?  May we be like Jesus, a nail, wherever God sees best to place us! (Adapted from Peter Leslie)
