Love your enemies

“Love your enemies”

Matthew 5.44

Do you have any enemies?

Seriously, do you have any enemies?

Do you love them?  How would you know?  How would it show?

Jesus was speaking to the church He was starting, and others gathered around, when He said things that were different than anything people had heard before, things like, “I say unto you, Love your enemies”.

There have been times that I wasn’t sure who was my friend and who was my enemy… so, worse case scenario?  “Love your enemies”!

The Lord tells us how to do this: “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;  (Matthew 5:44)

I have been able to commit this to memory by using this sort of  alphabetical/visual trick: bless them that curse… do good to them that hate you, pray for them which despitefully use you and persecute you…

“b/c…g/h…p/d/p”

Maybe if I didn’t have any enemies I wouldn’t need to go to such lengths to remember this verse… but until that time comes, I need to keep working hard to do what the Lord says, and He says, Love your enemies!
