The Light of The World.

“Ye are the light of the world.”

Matthew 5.14

Sometimes it’s hard to see it clearly – but it’s still true!  This is a simple, straight-forward statement made by the Lord Jesus Christ.

Jesus is speaking to the disciples, the apostles who would become the first church of the New Testament (Matthew 16.18, 2 Corinthians 12.28).  Jesus is simply saying, “Ye are the light of the world.”  And it was a statement, not a question.

Jesus then goes on to make another statement, “A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.”  Again, just a simple, straight-forward true statement.

Sometimes we don’t feel like much a “light of the world”.  Sometimes we don’t feel like we are making any sort of impact on the darkness around us.  Sometimes we feel quite “hidden”, and at times we would like to be “hidden” but – the truth is “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.”

We, as local and independent Baptist churches,  are encouraged to be that light shining for God our Father, and for the Lord Jesus Christ -  “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

Jesus knew exactly what He was saying – this world is becoming darker and darker – no secret there, “But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.”(Proverbs 4.18)

“Ye are the light of the world.
