It Is Appointed Unto Men Once To Die

Concrete Cross Under Clouds

“…it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment…”

Hebrews 9.27

The pastor of a Baptist church was in the hospital with a terminal illness.  He had spent many years serving the Lord, visiting people who were sick and dying, and now he said to the younger pastor sitting with him, “It’s one thing to sit on that side of the hospital bed, it’s another to be the one in the hospital bed facing death.”

What he was saying was, “ ‘…it is appointed unto men once to die,’ and facing death is not easy!”

Someone said that dying is not natural.  That God did not create us to die!  God created us to LIVE!  But… sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: (Romans 5.12)

“It’s one thing to sit on that side of the hospital bed,

it’s another to be the one in the hospital bed facing death.”

Where is there hope for any of us?  The verses before and after our verse at the beginning should give us hope!  “For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us… And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of manyand unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation. Hb 9:24-28

Have you received Christ as your personal saviour?  Are you ready?
