If Ye Love me

If ye love me…” - John 14.15

In the verse above it is Jesus who is saying these words, “If ye love me…”

The first thing I think is, “Who am I that I could ever even love Him like He has loved me!?”  But then I must consider that Jesus expects me to go on and address what He is saying.  He is saying, “If ye love me…”.

“If ye love me” ...what?  “If ye love me, keep my commandments.”  The word “keep” here means, to guard (from loss or injury, by keeping the eye upon)”.

Just like we see a soldier keeping a guard, keeping an eye on our sacred memorials, so we as Christians should be keeping an eye on the sacred Word of God – the Bible, the Book that tells us the commandments of God.  It is the Bible that tells us all we need to know to live this life in peace.  It is the Bible that tells us all we need to know to love our fellow man.  It is the Bible that tells us how to prepare for eternity

“If ye love me, keep my commandments.”

“For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.”  (1 John 5:3)

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”  (John 15:13)

“Keeping” God’s Word is not easy, but is it the best way we can lay down our lives for our friends – How else will they learn of God’s love in sending His only begotten Son to die for them? ~ Pastor
