"I have learned by experience..."

“I have learned by experience that the LORD hath blessed me for thy sake.” - Genesis 30.27

Here are the words of a man who was anything but good, honest, kind, caring etc. etc.  These are the words of Laban, father-in-law to Jacob.  He was a sly dog and a trickster if there ever was one – and God never has anything good to say about him.

But one thing about Laban – he wasn’t completely stupid!  He knew how good he had it, and why! He said to Jacob, “I have learned by experience that the LORD hath blessed me for thy sake.”

Now, Jacob also had some troubles because of his own deceitful habits.  But he was learning to leave his own ideas and methods behind and trust the LORD completely, and God was blessing him, and blessing him – to the point that anyone who had anything to do with Jacob was in the area of being blessed.

Now, I must ask, what about me?  Am I a blessing to others around me?  Am I learning that God will bless me far beyond what I can do for myself?  Can I see that listening to the Lord, and doing things His way will always be best for me, and my family?  And even the lost world – those without Christ, could they ever say of me, “I have learned by experience that the LORD hath blessed me for thy sake.”?
