But His Hand Is Stretched Out Still

Person's outstretched hand

“…but his hand is stretched out still.”

Isaiah 5:25

Every time I read this phrase as it appears in the Book of Isaiah, some five times, I am touched that the hand of the Lord is stretched out still!

It makes me think of God’s love to us, that in His love He continues to reach out to us…

That is NOT what THAT PHRASE, in the Book of Isaiah, is talking about – AT ALL!

Here is the context: “Therefore is the anger of the LORD kindled against his people, and he hath stretched forth his hand against them, and hath smitten them: and the hills did tremble, and their carcases were torn in the midst of the streets. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still. Isaiah 5:25

The point for us here is this:  God is love, but He is also just.

Sometimes people are only told of God’s love in a way that keeps them ignorant of the truth.  If we understand that God is just and that he will judge sin, then we can fear God and seek His mercy, forgiveness, love and salvation!  Yes, the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ were stretched out on the cross when He shed His blood and died for our sins!  But never forget: God will judge sin!
