He Did It With All His Heart, and Prospered

“And in every work that he began

in the service of the house of God, and in the law,

and in the commandments, to seek his God,

he did it with all his heart, and prospered.”

2 Chronicles 31:21

This verse is speaking about the Old Testament king of Judah, Hezekiah.  He saw a lot of people go away from God in his lifetime.  In fact, as the king of the Southern Kingdom, Judah with the capital city being Jerusalem, he saw the Northern Kingdom, Israel whose capital city was Samaria destroyed and taken into captivity.  He did not want that for himself, or his people!

Hezekiah didn’t always do everything right, and we should learn from his mistakes, but he had a great reputation for loving and serving God!  “And in every work that he began in the service of the house of God, and in the law, and in the commandments, to seek his God, he did it with all his heart, and prospered.”

Everything he did… in every work that he began in the service of the house of God… he did it with all his heart, and prospered!

As born again believers we are first – servants of the Lord!  We must understand this if we are ever going to “prosper”!  Once we understand that, then we will understand what God is telling us in Ecclesiastes 9:10 and Colossians 3:23-24  “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might;”  “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.”

Such a good reminder, like the song says, “I serve a risen Saviour, He’s in the world today…”  So let’s be like Hezekiah - “And in every work that he began… he did it with all his heart, and prospered.”
