“Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”

John 1:29

Jesus came the first time quietly, as the Lamb of God…

That will not be how His second coming will be.  It is called “the day of the Lord” and the Lord Jesus Christ will come as the Lion of the tribe of Judah!

How would we like to receive Him?  As the Lamb of God which takes away our sin?  Do we choose to receive Him as our Saviour?

Or will we meet Him as our Judge?

Either way, there is no doubt that…

we will meet Him!

“When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart.”

Proverbs 26:25-28

Speaking of a talebearer, which is someone who is a “slanderer”, or a “whisperer”, we are told that when he, or she, is talking nice – don’t believe them - because there are seven abominations in his heart!

In the Bible the word “seven” has to do with something complete, so it can mean that it is a complete plan, a perfect trap, something that has been completely thought out – to cause us trouble!

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.”

John 8.51

The article below is from a Pastor friend of mine.

Our European Baptist brethren in the early 16th century suffered terribly cruel persecution.

George Wagner of Emmerich, Germany was tossed into the flames in February 1527 because he didn’t believe that baptism possessed any saving power.

“So went Satan forth from the presence of the LORD, and smote Job…”

Job 2:7

Did Job know about this spiritual battle that was going on?

I’m asking because today there are so many “experts” on spiritual warfare that I can’t keep up.

So many people are so caught up in their ideas of spiritual warfare that they don’t have much time for…

…God.

Weird.

“So went Satan forth from the presence of the LORD…” and did Job even know?

“The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life…”

Proverbs 10:11

That is a great thing!  It’s a great thing when our mouths say things that are good and helpful to the people around us; and when our mouths just keep saying things that are like cool water from a deep well!  Every one of us should be working at that!  Yes – it is hard!  But it is so good.  Good for us, and good for everyone around us!  Amen!

This challenges me, and makes me think of Philippians 4:8,

“…which we have seen with our eyes…”

1 John 1.1

“That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of Life;” 1 John 1:1

"And these are the kings..."

“And these are the kings that reigned in the land of Edom,

before there reigned any king over the children of Israel.”

Genesis 36:31

Recently I was kind of struggling as I read through Genesis 36…  There were a lot of names…  Lots and lots of names… Names of men who were “the sons of”, and names of men who were “Dukes”… all of them related to Esau…  And these are the generations of Esau the father of the Edomites in mount Seir:” Genesis 36:9

And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

Matthew 4:19

I know this is talking about the disciples who were called to follow Jesus.  Those twelve men who Jesus called apostles, and who became the first members of the New Testament church.  I know Jesus is telling them that He would teach them everything they needed to know including how to win souls… but how?

There were no Bible colleges or Seminaries.  There weren’t any church “programs” or even church buildings.  So, how did Jesus do it?

More is caught than taught… which means it needs to be the whole “hear, see, then do” process.

“Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith… the house of the righteous shall stand.”

Hebrews 10:22, Proverbs 12:7b

The thing I get most out of reading a Proverb a day (the chapter in the book of Proverbs that corresponds with the day of the month) is the way the Lord often puts it together with my regular Bible reading to challenge, encourage and warn me!  I love it!

The above two verses, and a few minutes of thinking about them, are a result of one of those readings.

“Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith…

the house of the righteous shall stand.”

“Be not afraid of sudden fear…”

Proverbs 3:25

What does that mean?

“Be not afraid of sudden fear…”

It simply means stop being afraid and anxious about things that surprise us, things that seem like “the end of the world”.

It means we are better off having a fear of God than being afraid of anything in this life – even the unexpected things.  (By the way, this article was in our church bulletin one year ago, in October 2019, before the Australian bushfires… before the Pandemic…)
