“It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High: To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night,”

Psalm 92.1-2

These two verses from the 92nd Psalm encourage us in three areas:

1. “It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD,”

Of all the good we can do in this life – making sure we show our gratitude to the Lord is certainly a “good thing”!  When we are grateful to the Lord it shows in how we treat other people.

“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.  This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. (Matthew 22.37-40)

2. “To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning,”

Every morning God allows the sun to rise – even in the heat of Summer the sun comes up slowly, in a way the shows the lovingkindness of God.  A new day, new life, new opportunities, and even when there is a burden to be carried in the day – the morning gives us a chance to prepare, and “to give thanks unto the LORD”...

3. “and thy faithfulness every night,”

And when the day is done, and what has been... has been, God was faithful wasn’t He?  He did care for us didn’t He?  The sun now sets.  There will be another day tomorrow, but this day is done, and so... “he giveth his beloved sleep.” (Psalm 127.2)

Yes, “It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD... in the morning, and... every night,”.

We can have confidence that God will help us and bless us when we give our thanks to Him, because it is also His will!  “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18
